The Cleveland Cavaliers have secured James Harden for the coming years, announcing that the veteran guard has signed a new multi-year contract with the franchise.
Harden split last season between the Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland, appearing in 70 games and starting every one. Across the full season, he averaged 23.6 points, 8.0 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.13 steals in 34.8 minutes per game.
The 17-year veteran also shot a career-best 88.4% from the free-throw line and connected on 215 three-pointers. It marked the eighth season of his career in which he made at least 200 shots from beyond the arc.
Cleveland acquired Harden from the Clippers on February 4, 2026. He played 26 regular-season games following the trade, posting 20.5 points, 7.7 assists and 4.8 rebounds per contest.
The Cavaliers went 19-7 with Harden in the lineup and later advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2018. Harden started all 18 of Cleveland’s playoff games, averaging 19.2 points, 5.5 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 1.72 steals.
That postseason run extended Harden’s personal streak to 17 consecutive playoff appearances. He joined Karl Malone, John Stockton, Jason Kidd and Tony Parker as the only players in NBA history to reach the postseason in 17 straight seasons.
Harden will now enter his 18th NBA season. Through 1,221 regular-season games with Oklahoma City, Houston, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, the Clippers and Cleveland, he has career averages of 24.0 points, 7.3 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 1.47 steals.
The three-time scoring champion has also accumulated 82 triple-doubles and 409 double-doubles. His scoring résumé includes 783 games with at least 20 points, 344 with 30 or more, 107 with 40 or more, 25 50-point performances and four 60-point games.
Harden has played another 191 games in the postseason, averaging 22.2 points, 6.4 assists and 5.4 rebounds. He has reached five conference finals during his career and made his lone NBA Finals appearance with the Thunder in 2012.
