Rep. Lauren Boebert has thrown her support behind Enes Kanter Freedom and his campaign targeting transgender participation in women’s sports.
The Colorado congresswoman was asked on Capitol Hill whether she viewed the former NBA center as genuinely committed to the issue or simply seeking publicity.
Boebert made clear that she supports what Kanter Freedom is doing, saying he is “calling the idiocy out.”
She also addressed his recent confrontation with Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud, joking that it was “quite the cat fight” between “these two women.”
Boebert said she would like to see Kanter Freedom follow through with his attempt to enter the WNBA.
“I’m going to bet on his games,” she said.
The congresswoman continued with sarcastic remarks, referring to Kanter Freedom as “that woman” before asking, “What’s his dead name? What’s his new name?”
According to Boebert, the broader dispute could be addressed by having the WNBA clearly define what qualifies someone to compete in the women’s league.
Kanter Freedom previously declared himself eligible for the 2027 WNBA Draft as part of his protest over men participating in women’s sports.
