Klay Thompson has quickly embraced his new surroundings in Miami, pointing to the organization’s demanding culture as one of the biggest reasons he wanted to join the Heat.
The veteran guard said his respect for Miami existed long before his arrival and believes the franchise’s reputation for getting the most out of its players is well deserved.
“I’ve had nothing but respect for the Heat. Heat Culture isn’t just a phrase, they live it. There’s a reason their guys overachieved a lot of times or embraced the pressure that comes with championship expectations.
“That’s what attracted me here. All my friends who played here talk how demanding it is and your fitness will be the best it’s ever been.”
Thompson also welcomes the intense environment and believes being pushed by his new teammates and coaches can bring something different out of him.
“I want to be in a environment that’s super competitive and guys might get uncomfortable at times. I love that.”
Miami’s championship history has also made an early impression on Thompson, who sees his move to the Heat as an opportunity to add another accomplishment to his career.
“I get a whole jolt of energy when I walk in this building and seeing photos on the wall of the championship runs and all the greats who played here. Gives me a new motivation to add a chapter to my legacy.”
