Gilbert Arenas questioned Jonathan Kuminga’s decision to sign a surprisingly inexpensive contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves after months of interest from the Los Angeles Lakers.
Kuminga agreed to a two-year, $13 million deal with Minnesota on Wednesday.
The decision drew attention because the Lakers reportedly had a sign-and-trade proposal worth more than $12 million per season over at least three years.
Arenas reacted to the 23-year-old accepting considerably less money and questioned how his contract situation had reached this point.
“Bro, you just signed a podcast deal. All this is crazy – how does your get contracts keep getting worse? You was just balling in Atlanta! You did all this waiting, we over here fighting for you, for you to sign a Costco member’s deal? Two years, $13 [million]?” Arenas said.
The former NBA All-Star then suggested Los Angeles would have moved much faster if the team had known Kuminga was willing to accept such a low price.
“Lakers, we got 15 people on our contract making more than this. If we know you was selling a** this low, one of them 1980 contracts, 10 years, $10 million, you would’ve been signed a long time ago! Who is your agent?” he continued.
