Daniel Theis has opened up about his failed move to ASVEL after signing a two-year contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv earlier this month.
The 34-year-old center had initially agreed to join Tony Parker’s ASVEL and said he was “honored” by Parker’s interest.
However, the French club’s financial problems eventually forced several planned deals to collapse.
Theis said he was particularly disappointed by the lack of direct communication as ASVEL began reducing its budget.
“I found out mostly through the media or through teammates who sent me reports,” Theis said.
“Unfortunately, there wasn’t much communication. … You would have expected a phone call (from Parker). We spoke over the summer.
“Many players, myself included, had been to his house to discuss different things. Finding out this way was obviously frustrating.”
With his move to ASVEL no longer possible, Theis ultimately joined Maccabi, where he was offered the opportunity to serve as the team’s starting center for the next two seasons.
