Paul George has embraced his move to the Boston Celtics after visiting the franchise’s facility for the first time following his July trade from the Philadelphia 76ers. George said he is excited to begin the next chapter of his career while representing Boston in the iconic green.
“I’m gonna give y’all everything… It’s surreal. I’m ecstatic. I’m looking forward to the journey. I’m looking forward to wearing that green and representing for Boston,” George said during his visit to the Celtics facility.
The Celtics acquired George from Philadelphia on July 1 in a blockbuster trade that sent five-time All-Star Jaylen Brown to the 76ers. Boston also received two first-round picks, in 2028 and 2031, and two second-round selections as part of the deal.
George, 36, enters Boston after averaging 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 37 games for Philadelphia during the 2025-26 regular season. He shot 43.9% from the field, 39.2% from three-point range and 82.0% from the free-throw line while playing 30.7 minutes per game.
His three-point shooting gives Boston another perimeter option alongside Jayson Tatum and Derrick White. George made 2.7 three-pointers per game last season on 6.9 attempts, while his career averages stand at 20.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists over 945 regular-season games.
The 16-year veteran also brings extensive playoff experience to a Celtics team that finished second in the Eastern Conference at 56-26 during the 2025-26 regular season. Boston’s season ended in the first round, with Philadelphia winning the series 4-3 after taking Game 7 in Boston, 109-100.
The Celtics have since reshaped the roster around Tatum. Boston added Mitchell Robinson on a three-year, $47.4 million contract and signed Mike Conley to a one-year deal, while Neemias Queta agreed to a four-year, $56 million extension after averaging 10.2 points and 8.4 rebounds in 76 games.
George’s arrival also changes the Celtics’ wing rotation following Brown’s departure. Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists while shooting 47.7% from the field for Boston last season and earned All-NBA Second Team honors.
George has made nine All-Star teams and earned All-NBA First Team honors once, in 2018-19, when he averaged 28.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.2 steals for Oklahoma City. His 2018-19 season also produced his highest career scoring average.
