Klay Thompson of the Dallas Mavericks named LeBron James as the toughest player he has guarded during his NBA career.
Asked the question during a Twitch stream, Thompson quickly pointed to James, whom he repeatedly faced during the Warriors-Cavaliers rivalry.
“LeBron [James],” Thompson said.
“We saw him for four straight Finals, and I haven’t seen anyone control the game as well as he does. He can do everything on the court. He has no weaknesses.”
Thompson and Golden State faced James’ Cavaliers in four consecutive NBA Finals from 2015 through 2018.
The Warriors won three of those series, while Cleveland produced its historic comeback in 2016.
That year, James helped the Cavaliers overcome a 3-1 deficit against a Warriors team that had finished the regular season with an NBA-record 73 wins.
Thompson is now entering the final season of his contract with the Mavericks after spending most of his career with Golden State.
During his Warriors tenure, he reached six NBA Finals and won four championships alongside Stephen Curry.
Thompson has averaged 18.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 934 regular-season games. He was selected to play in 5 All-Star games.
