Jeanie Buss has backed Luka Doncic’s reaction to the Los Angeles Lakers’ record $12.5 billion sale to Bob Iger and Josh Kushner.
Shortly after the ownership change was announced, Doncic shared his excitement about the Lakers’ future and his desire to bring another championship to Los Angeles.
“Being a Laker means everything to me, and I’m excited to get back on the court and bring a championship to LA,” Doncic wrote.
“I’ve gotten used to big changes over these last few years, but I know that no matter what, there is no limit to the potential of this iconic franchise. I look forward to meeting Josh and Bob so we can get to work building something special in LA together,” he added.
Buss responded to Doncic’s message with a brief show of support, writing, “Perfectly said 💛💜”.
Buss remains the Lakers’ Team Governor despite previously selling her controlling stake to Mark Walter. The Buss family retained a 15% interest in the franchise following that transaction.
Iger has also indicated that the new ownership group intends to respect Buss’ existing role with the organization.
“We have enormous respect and appreciation for Jeanie, her father and what they’ve contributed to this franchise,” Iger said. “And we have every intention to honor the agreement that was made between Mark and Jeanie.
“If things change, they’ll change, but we’re going into this with enormous respect and appreciation for who she is and what she represents in the organization.”
