Juan Carlos Navarro will remain with Barcelona despite stepping down as general manager of the club’s basketball operations, according to SPORT.

Barcelona later confirmed that the club legend will become an ambassador and mentor for its youth basketball program.

Navarro has not played a major role in shaping the roster for the upcoming season, with sporting director Mario Bruno Fernandez and director of professional sports Xavi O’Callaghan handling recent personnel decisions.

After weeks of discussions, Barcelona and Navarro reportedly agreed to continue their long-term partnership rather than end his contract.

The former captain signed a 10-year agreement before retiring as a player in 2018, and that deal is still in effect.

Navarro joined Barcelona’s youth basketball department as technical secretary in 2019 before being promoted to general manager in 2021.

Xevi Pujol is expected to replace him as general manager after leaving Baskonia.

The leadership changes come as Barcelona reshapes its basketball department following three trophyless seasons.

Despite the restructuring and significant roster turnover, the club still considers Navarro an important figure and wants him to remain involved in its basketball project.
