Steph Curry hoped LeBron James would join the Warriors, but his calm reaction after James chose the 76ers suggested he never fully expected the partnership to happen.
“That’s why you don’t envision anything until it happens,” Curry said at Moses Moody’s youth camp. “There’s a lot of moving parts.”
Rather than expressing disappointment, the player remained measured.
According to The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson II, that could reflect a growing fatigue with Golden State’s repeated pursuit of superstar additions.
Speaking on KNBR, Thompson said Curry likely knew before the public that James was headed elsewhere and may have become frustrated with waiting for blockbuster moves that never materialize.
“I think he’s probably a little tired of the star chasing,” Thompson said.
The Warriors have spent years trying to add another elite player to extend Curry’s title window.
After acquiring Jimmy Butler in 2025, they also explored deals involving James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jaylen Brown and Anthony Davis, but none resulted in another star.
Thompson wondered if Curry would now prefer a younger, deeper roster instead of constantly waiting for one transformational addition.
“Let’s give me some eager youngsters and we got to it,” Thompson said while imagining Curry’s potential viewpoint. “Let’s go the Davidson route, right? Let’s go the [Southern Conference] route. Just put together the best team.”
