LeBron James’ future continues to dominate the NBA offseason. With the four-time champion yet to decide where he will play next season, speculation around the league continues to grow.
The situation has even drawn comparisons to 2010, when James’ free agency kept the basketball world waiting before he joined the Miami Heat to form the legendary “Big Three” with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
The uncertainty is having such a major impact that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver recently admitted the league is waiting on James before finalizing parts of its schedule, including opening week and Christmas Day.
James only fueled the rumors during Fanatics Fest in New York. While appearing on his “Mind The Game” podcast alongside Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton, he joked about his decision, saying, “We don’t have an announcement to make just yet.”
On Friday, the speculation intensified after James explained what he is looking for in his next destination.
“Most important is I want to compete. I want to compete at a high level. I want to join a franchise that kind of shares the same motto as myself and that’s practicing championship habits every day but trusting the process more than anything.”
His use of “trust the process” immediately sparked a reaction from Philadelphia 76ers fans, although James later insisted he had been using the phrase since 2003, years before it became associated with the franchise.
Even so, Philadelphia remains firmly in the conversation.
According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown and Tyrese Maxey have all been trying to recruit James, making the 76ers one of the strongest contenders if the NBA legend decides to move on.
