Victor Wembanyama is expected to return to France’s national team for the upcoming 2027 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, according to L’Equipe’s Maxime Aubin.
The San Antonio Spurs star has already started his offseason training in France under trainer Guillaume Alquier as he prepares to rejoin Les Bleus in August.
France enters the next qualifying stage with a 5-1 record and will host Slovenia on August 27 before visiting Sweden on August 30.
Slovenia is expected to be without the Los Angeles Lakers star guard Luka Doncic.
Head coach Frederic Fauthoux’s team currently leads Group L and is well positioned to qualify for the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Qatar.
Wembanyama is coming off a dominant NBA season in which he won Defensive Player of the Year, earned All-NBA honors and helped lead the Spurs to the NBA Finals.
He averaged 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and a league-leading 3.1 blocks per game during the regular season.
Earlier this offseason, the 22-year-old also signed a five-year, $252 million contract extension with San Antonio through the 2031-32 season.
