The Utah Jazz have agreed to sign guard Trey Alexander to a two-way contract, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer. The former Creighton standout has spent time with the Denver Nuggets and New Orleans Pelicans over the past two NBA seasons and now joins a Jazz organization continuing to invest in young talent following an aggressive offseason rebuild.

Alexander, 23, has appeared in 33 NBA games since entering the league. He split the past two seasons between Denver and New Orleans, averaging 2.4 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 6.9 minutes per game while shooting 41.0% from the field.

Although his NBA opportunities have been limited, he showed noticeable improvement with the Pelicans in 2025-26, averaging 5.2 points in 12.3 minutes over nine appearances while shooting an efficient 51.4% from the floor and 50.0% from three-point range.

His strongest production has come in the G League. Alexander averaged 25.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.4 assists across eight games with the Grand Rapids Gold during the 2024-25 season while shooting 45.6% from the field. Last season, he followed that by averaging 19.1 points, 5.0 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 2.1 steals in 10 games for the Birmingham Squadron.

The two-way contract gives Utah another developmental guard behind a young backcourt already led by Keyonte George and Isaiah Collier. George emerged as one of the team’s offensive leaders last season, averaging 23.6 points and 6.1 assists over 54 games while shooting 45.6% overall and 37.1% from beyond the arc. Collier contributed 11.7 points and a team-high 7.2 assists in 59 games, giving the Jazz two promising young primary ball handlers.

Alexander will compete for minutes alongside several other young perimeter players, including 2026 No. 2 overall pick Darryn Peterson, Cody Williams, Walter Clayton and Brice Sensabaugh. His ability to play both guard spots and produce efficiently in the G League could make him a candidate for NBA call-ups throughout the season.

The signing comes after a transformative offseason for Utah. The franchise traded starting center Walker Kessler to the Los Angeles Lakers for multiple future first-round picks and swap rights, adding significant long-term draft capital. Utah also strengthened its frontcourt by retaining Jusuf Nurkic and adding Jaxson Hayes and Josh Okogie in free agency, while Jaren Jackson Jr., acquired before the trade deadline, is expected to anchor the defense alongside Lauri Markkanen.

After finishing 22-60 and last in the Western Conference during the 2025-26 season, the Jazz have clearly prioritized player development while maintaining financial flexibility and accumulating future assets.
