The Washington Wizards have waived two-way forward Leaky Black, NBA insider Michael Scotto reported on Wednesday, July 1. The move opens one of the organization’s two-way roster spots as the franchise continues reshaping its roster following the 2026 NBA Draft.
Black, 27, appeared in 15 NBA games for Washington during the 2025-26 season, making nine starts while averaging 7.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 28.9 minutes per game. He also contributed 1.2 steals per contest.
Despite the opportunity, Black struggled to score efficiently. He shot 38.8% from the field and 34.5% from three-point range while posting a 48.1% effective field goal percentage. His offensive role remained limited, but he averaged fewer than one turnover per game despite nearly 29 minutes of action.
Across his two NBA seasons with the Charlotte Hornets and Wizards, Black has played in 41 games with 12 starts. He owns career averages of 4.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists while shooting 41.9% from the field and 37.3% from beyond the arc.
The roster decision comes as Washington continues overhauling its young core after finishing 17-65, the NBA’s worst record in the 2025-26 regular season. The franchise secured the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft and selected forward AJ Dybantsa, adding another highly regarded wing prospect to a roster already featuring Bilal Coulibaly, Kyshawn George, Cam Whitmore and Will Riley.
Black entered the league after a five-year collegiate career at North Carolina, where he built a reputation as one of the ACC’s most versatile defenders.
