The Dallas Mavericks’ coaching search remains active as the franchise looks to begin a new era on the sidelines after moving on from Jason Kidd.

The change comes shortly after Masai Ujiri was brought in to oversee basketball operations, making the head coaching hire one of the organization’s top offseason priorities.

Dallas has cast a wide net in its search, speaking with several candidates from around the league.

Among those who have reportedly received interviews are Tony Dobbins of the Celtics, Steve Hetzel of the Nets, Royal Ivey of the Rockets, Noah LaRoche from the Heat organization, Raptors assistant Jama Mahlalela, Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori, and longtime NBA coach Terry Stotts, who brings extensive head coaching experience.

The Mavericks have not limited their search to NBA benches. The team has also shown interest in the college ranks, reaching out to Michigan’s Dusty May and Duke’s Jon Scheyer as part of its evaluation process.

Finding the right leader before draft week appears to be a key objective for Dallas.

Although the front office will handle roster decisions, the franchise values the perspective of its future head coach during draft preparation, prospect evaluations, and roster planning.

With the opening round of the 2026 NBA Draft set for June 23 and the second round scheduled for June 24, the Mavericks are working against the clock to complete one of the most important hires of their offseason.
