The possibility of a blockbuster trade involving Giannis Antetokounmpo appears to be gaining momentum with just days remaining before the 2026 NBA Draft.
According to Evan Sidery, the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks are making “significant progress” toward a deal centered on Antetokounmpo, although negotiations remain ongoing over future draft compensation and the inclusion of additional young players.
The reported framework under discussion would send Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nikola Jovic, the No. 13 pick and a future first-round selection to Milwaukee, but the Bucks are reportedly seeking more before agreeing to a deal.
The timing is notable. Milwaukee has reportedly set an internal draft-day deadline as it seeks clarity on Antetokounmpo’s future before the June 23-24 draft. The organization is coming off a disappointing 32-50 season that left it 11th in the Eastern Conference and out of postseason contention after years as a perennial contender.
Antetokounmpo remains one of the league’s most productive superstars despite Milwaukee’s struggles. During the 2025-26 season, he averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists while shooting 62.4 percent from the field. Those numbers have helped preserve his status as one of the NBA’s premier franchise players and explain why Milwaukee continues to demand a massive return package.
For Miami, the pursuit reflects a desire to accelerate its climb back into championship contention. The Heat finished 43-39 and secured a Play-In Tournament berth, ending the season 17 games behind the conference-leading Detroit Pistons and well short of eventual NBA champion New York. Adding Antetokounmpo alongside Bam Adebayo would instantly give Miami one of the league’s most formidable frontcourt pairings.
However, recent reporting has suggested the Heat are unwilling to completely empty their asset cupboard. Bam Adebayo has consistently been described as untouchable in trade talks, while Miami has reportedly been hesitant to include every one of its young prospects and future draft assets in a single package.
That tension appears to be at the center of negotiations. Jake Fischer recently reported that rival executives believe Milwaukee’s asking price has been so aggressive that it could leave a Giannis destination stripped of the supporting talent necessary to contend for a title. The Bucks, meanwhile, are attempting to maximize the return for a player who remains under contract and is still viewed as a franchise-altering force.
Sidery also reported that the deal could expand beyond two teams. The Detroit Pistons are reportedly being discussed as a possible facilitator for Herro, while Milwaukee is said to be exploring opportunities to move Myles Turner, Bobby Portis and Kyle Kuzma as part of a broader multi-team framework. Such a structure could allow the Bucks to reshape their roster while acquiring younger talent and draft capital.
