Zalgiris Kaunas has completed the signing of forward Maxwell Lewis, adding a young wing prospect on a two-year contract with an option for a third season. The 23-year-old will spend the 2026-27 campaign on loan with London Lions in the EuroCup.
Lewis arrives in Kaunas after a strong first European season that ended with him becoming one of the biggest breakout performers in the Lithuanian League. The 2.01-meter forward joined BC Juventus Utena midway through the season after playing for Tofas Bursa and quickly became a key offensive option.
In 22 Lithuanian League appearances, Lewis averaged 13.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 blocks per game. His biggest performances came during the league finals against Zalgiris, where he averaged 19.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.7 blocks across the series.
The move gives Zalgiris a developmental project at the wing position as the club prepares for changes in its roster. Sylvain Francisco is leaving for LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, while center Moses Wright is expected to join FC Barcelona. Francisco led Zalgiris in scoring during the 2025-26 EuroLeague season with 16.5 points and 6.5 assists per game, while Wright averaged 13.2 points and 6.5 rebounds.
Lewis previously spent time in the NBA after being selected 40th overall by the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 NBA Draft and traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on draft night. He appeared in 43 games for Los Angeles before joining the Brooklyn Nets, where he played 21 games after a December 2024 trade.
The Lions believe the move provides Lewis with an ideal environment to continue developing before potentially making the jump to EuroLeague competition.
