

Sunday saw the staging of the County Strokeplay Championships for adults in Deerpark as there was a new named added to the Senior Mens Cup.
Former County Board Chairman James Dignan of Castleisland took advantage of a final round of five under par for a winning total of 14 under par as like in the Tralee Senior Scratch Cup last monthhe piped Gavin Carroll by a single stroke in the finish. Carroll had shot the best final round of seven under par to move to 13 under for the tournament as he finished ahead of Deerpark’s John McGrath on 12 under with 36-hole leader Stephen Conway having to settle for fourth on 11 under par.
The Intermediate Mens saw Ajay Barrett continue his magnificent 2026 thus far with another county title to go with his Junior Matchplay success back in April. The Listowel player shot the best 36-hole score of any player with 11 under par as although he dropped back to nine under overall after the playoff, he still had four shots to spare in the finish. Deerpark’s James Fleming finished ahead of club-mate Gearóid Cronin on countback in claiming second place on five under par.
The Junior Mens event saw another player continue a good vein of form as Deerpark’s David Harnett followed on from his run to the National Junior Matchplay semi-finals with a 10-shot victory over club-mate James Foley. Harnett finished one under for the tournament to add another county title to his collection as the Ladies grade saw Eileen McCarthy record a convincing win in the Gross section with a score of 119 (+11). Tralee’s Catriona O’Connor won the Nett prize with a score of 105 as Silvia Raicu of Tralee won the Second Gross prize on countback from club-mate Bernadette O’Regan with a score of 152.
The County Board congratulates all prizewinners last Sunday as it commends Deerpark on the condition of the course in advance of its hosting of the Munster Strokeplay Finals next month. Thursday (June 18th) sees the Paul O’Sullivan Memorial Open begin in Listowel for a three-day period as the event will be the first Open Singles held in Kerry since Deerpark discontinued their Open back in 2012. Next Tuesday night (June 23rd) sees us in Listowel again then for the conclusion of the Bob Casey Memorial Inter-Club Strokeplay.
