Knicks head coach Mike Brown framed New York’s championship night through a series of emotional and detailed postgame remarks after the New York Knicks clinched the 2026 NBA title with a 94-90 Game 5 win over the San Antonio Spurs.

His opening line captured the moment: “First of all, it’s just a heck of a win… to have the fans that we have in New York City and be able to bring home a championship after all these years is absolutely amazing.”

Brown repeatedly emphasized disbelief at the achievement, saying, “It’s a surreal feeling… I still don’t believe it. I’m pinching myself, I’m telling myself to try to be present.” He added, “All the stuff that I tell these guys every single day, I’m trying to do because I can’t believe it.”

The Knicks coach directed credit across the organization, stating, “I’m happy for Mr. Dolan, happy for Leon Rose, Chris Jent… my staff… they carried me all year.” He expanded the praise further: “Our players are great… one through 18 have been ready from day one.”

A major theme of Brown’s press conference was the consistency of his roster in high-leverage moments. “Every time we called on somebody, they stepped up,” he said, reinforcing New York’s ability to withstand multiple double-digit deficits throughout the playoffs, including all four Finals wins.

Brown’s most forceful language came when discussing Jalen Brunson, who scored 45 points in Game 5, including 13 consecutive Knicks points in the fourth quarter. Brown said, “He is a top-three MVP candidate… he is a fricking 1A. He is an MVP candidate.”

He continued the public endorsement without hesitation: “He is him. He’s him. He is him. He is him.” Brown doubled down moments later, saying, “Jalen Brunson is him when it comes to New York basketball. He is fricking him, man.”

Brown also challenged how Brunson is evaluated league-wide, stating, “People say he’s too small… he is a 1A. He is an MVP candidate, and I hope tonight you guys recognize what this man is about.”

Reflecting on Brunson’s influence beyond scoring, Brown said, “When take his play into account, it’s off the charts, man.” He also connected Brunson’s mindset to culture-setting impact, noting, “He understands what winning’s about… that set the standard.”

Brown also credited Brunson’s background, saying, “I’ve got to give his mom credit… his dad credit too… his entire family… he understands what winning’s about.” He added, “He set the bar before he even stepped on the floor.”

As the press conference closed, Brown shifted back to the collective achievement. “I love my players, love the organization, but more importantly, let’s go New York. Let’s go New York.”

The Knicks’ title run, sealed with a 4-1 Finals series win after multiple comeback victories, ended with Brown visibly drained but reflective. “I was gassed,” he said. “This stuff is harder than what you think.”

He recalled past experience as context for the moment, adding, “I was on the other bench when the buzzer went off… I just want to breathe. That’s what I wanted to do today.”
