The New York Knicks survived a fourth-quarter comeback to beat the San Antonio Spurs 105-104 and take a 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals.
The Spurs scored 14 consecutive points as they wiped out a deficit and took the lead in the final minute of a physical encounter.
Jalen Brunson levelled and, with time running out, Victor Wembanyama was careless in possession and Brunson was able to edge the Knicks ahead with a free throw.
Wembanyama had one final chance to snatch victory, but his shot failed to find the basket and the Knicks completed a second win on the road to start the finals.
“I need to have more poise,” Wembanyama said. “More control over the game.”
Karl-Anthony Towns had 21 points and 13 rebounds as the Knicks secured a 13th consecutive win in the play-offs, the second longest run in history.
The Knicks will look to claim their first NBA title since 1973 at home in the next two games, the first of which is on Monday at Madison Square Gardens, with President Donald Trump planning to attend.
