Giants miss Serbian League final

Serbian basketball is set for a historic finish after both EuroLeague representatives were eliminated in the semifinals, ensuring that neither Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade nor Partizan Belgrade will compete for the domestic title.

Following Partizan’s surprising defeat to FMP Belgrade earlier in the day, Crvena Zvezda suffered a dramatic 90-89 loss to Spartak Subotica, completing a stunning day of upsets.

As a result, the Serbian League final will feature two teams outside the country’s traditional giants, guaranteeing a new champion. The newly introduced Final Four format has brought added drama to the competition and played a role in producing both semifinal shocks.

For Spartak, the victory sends the club to its second consecutive Serbian League final. The team has won only one trophy in its history, the ABA League Second Division, and now has a chance to secure its first major title.

Crvena Zvezda’s disappointment continues, as the Belgrade club has now missed both the ABA League and Serbian League finals in each of the last two seasons.

Jordan Nwora led Zvezda with 25 points, while Ognjen Dobric added 19 and Jared Butler finished with 16 points and six assists.

Spartak were led by Igor Drobnjak’s 21 points, five rebounds and seven assists, while Danilo Nikolic contributed 18 points and six rebounds in the memorable victory.
