NBA insider Chris Haynes reported that the Portland Trail Blazers have “serious interest” in acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo and are actively examining trade logistics behind the scenes.
The report arrives as the Milwaukee Bucks continue to be evaluated across the league as a potential trade-decision team, with discussions also surfacing around alternative frameworks involving the Cleveland Cavaliers. Boston has also been mentioned in broader league conversations, though Giannis’s camp has not identified the Celtics as a primary destination at this stage.
Speaking on the ‘Deals and Dunks’ show on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Haynes provided direct context on Portland’s position in the market.
“I’ve heard Portland has serious interest to get a deal done to acquire Giannis. To potentially bring back the pairing of Dame and Giannis…I’m told Portland has serious interest and they are investigating behind the scenes and trying to see what would make sense,” the insider said, via Total Pro Sports.
The potential link also carries roster implications tied to Portland’s current core structure. The Blazers feature a mix of high-usage perimeter scoring and frontcourt versatility, led by Deni Avdija, Shaedon Sharpe, Jerami Grant, and Jrue Holiday, while maintaining flexibility around draft assets and contract matching scenarios.
Giannis is set to enter the second year of a three-year, $175 million deal with a player option in the final season. Across 36 games in the 2025-26 campaign, he has averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists while shooting 62.4% from the field, maintaining his status as one of the league’s most efficient interior scorers.
The discussion also intersects with Portland’s long-term timeline, where the presence of Damian Lillard remains a key contextual factor. Lillard has missed the entire 2025-26 season amid Achilles tear recovery.
Around the league, Milwaukee’s situation continues to be monitored by multiple contenders, including the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics, both of which have been mentioned in broader speculative frameworks tied to superstar movement scenarios.
