Sean Sweeney is expected to receive an interview from the Orlando Magic as the franchise continues its search for a new head coach following the departure of Jahmal Mosley.
Sweeney currently serves as the lead assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs under Mitch Johnson and is viewed around the league as one of the strongest first-time head coaching candidates available this offseason.
The longtime NBA assistant is also reportedly under consideration for the Chicago Bulls’ head coaching vacancy.
While Orlando has not identified a clear frontrunner yet, experienced coaches remain part of the organization’s search process.
Billy Donovan is believed to be a serious candidate and has already held conversations with Magic president Jeff Weltman, with an in-person meeting reportedly expected soon.
Jeff Van Gundy is also being monitored by Orlando after spending the past two seasons as an assistant under Tyronn Lue with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Meanwhile, Tom Thibodeau reportedly has interest in returning to coaching, though he is not currently involved in Orlando’s search.
