The Denver Nuggets are reportedly not considering a major rebuild, but the organization is expected to explore ways to reduce payroll heading into next season.
Veteran center Jonas Valanciunas is not expected to remain with the team. His $10 million contract is only guaranteed for $2 million before July 8.
Denver is reportedly expected to either trade him to a team willing to absorb that amount or waive him before the remainder of the deal becomes fully guaranteed.
The Nuggets may also look into moving Zeke Nnaji, who is owed a fully guaranteed $7.5 million next season.
In addition, Denver could consider trading Cameron Johnson in another potential salary-clearing move. Johnson is entering the final year of his contract and is set to make $23.1 million.
The franchise also faces important decisions regarding restricted free agents Peyton Watson and Spencer Jones.
Although Denver controls matching rights on both players, the team’s difficult luxury tax and second-apron situation could make it challenging to retain them if rival teams present large offer sheets.
