The Washington Wizards, entering the lottery with the highest odds at 14 percent, officially captured the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

The result places Washington in control of one of the most anticipated draft classes in recent years and gives the franchise a massive opportunity to shape its future.

Following the Wizards in the draft order are the Utah Jazz at No. 2, the Memphis Grizzlies at No. 3 and the Chicago Bulls at No. 4.

The Indiana Pacers initially landed the fifth selection, though the pick will be transferred to the Los Angeles Clippers because of the Ivica Zubac trade completed earlier this season at the deadline.

The spotlight will now shift toward Washington’s front office, which faces a major decision with the top selection.

AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson are widely viewed as the two leading contenders to be selected first overall, while Cameron Boozer and Caleb Wilson are also projected among the elite prospects in the class.

Utah had frequently been connected to Dybantsa throughout the season, especially as he reportedly climbed above Peterson on several teams’ draft boards.

However, with the Wizards now controlling the top pick, the direction of the draft is entirely in their hands.

Washington’s recent roster moves have only increased intrigue around the organization’s plans.

The Wizards made aggressive win-now trades this season for veteran All-Stars Trae Young and Anthony Davis, leaving many wondering whether the franchise will prioritize immediate competitiveness or continue building around young talent through the draft.
