Former NBA star guard Rajon Rondo is being considered as a candidate for the head coaching role with the New Orleans Pelicans, according to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer.

League sources indicate that the four-time All-Star has already interviewed for the position after working as a special assistant on Doc Rivers’ staff in Milwaukee.

His interest in coaching reportedly began earlier in his career while recovering from a torn ACL during his time with the Boston Celtics, when Brad Stevens involved him in team staff meetings.

Rondo played 16 seasons for 9 teams, including the Celtics and Lakers. He averaged 9.8 points, 7.9 assists and 4.5 rebounds in 957 regular-season games.

He was selected to play in 4 All-Star games, and won 2 NBA championships.
