Damian Lillard close to return

When Damian Lillard rejoined the Portland Trail Blazers last offseason, many viewed it as a move driven by loyalty rather than championship aspirations.

But as Bill Oram of The Oregonian points out, Portland’s current play is validating that decision.

There’s also growing attention on whether Lillard could factor into the postseason.

A source told Oram that the veteran guard is “close” to receiving clearance as he works back from an Achilles injury, though any appearance would likely come later in the playoffs or very late in the series against the San Antonio Spurs.

“I wouldn’t rule anything out or get too excited about anything,” a source told Oram.

Lillard has averaged 25.1 points, 6.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds across 900 regular-season games.

He is a nine-time All-Star and has also won Rookie of the Year.
