The expected departure of Mike James signals the end of a defining era for AS Monaco Basket.
In an interview with L’Equipe, the veteran guard confirmed he will enter free agency this summer, despite previously being under contract through 2027.
Responding to reports about that long-term deal, James dismissed them bluntly, saying, “They also say Elvis is still alive.”
He followed that with a firm “No” when asked about a possible return for the 2026–27 season.
Despite rumors linking him to other EuroLeague teams, James emphasized that he has not held any talks and remains focused only on finishing the current campaign.
“I haven’t signed anywhere, nor have I spoken with anyone. I’m only thinking about finishing the season,” he said.
His exit comes during a turbulent stretch for the club, which has dealt with internal issues and the resignation of head coach Vassilis Spanoulis.
