The mascot for the Washington Wizards who was shoved by Jaxson Hayes before a January 30 game has hired attorney Waukeen McCoy, the lawyer confirmed to The California Post.
The incident occurred at Capital One Arena during pregame warmups.
McCoy said settlement discussions with the Los Angeles Lakers big man are ongoing, though a lawsuit remains possible if talks collapse.
Hayes, who received a one-game suspension, said he reacted after the mascot stepped on him while he was warming up. TMZ first reported the development.
“Should’ve handled it a different way,” Hayes said afterward. “And, you know, we live and we learn. So, just going to keep doing that now.”
The mascot, known as G-Wiz, was running the court with a large flag before the Wizards’ game against the Los Angeles Lakers when the shove occurred.
McCoy previously represented Hayes’ ex, Sofia Jamora, in a civil case that was settled last year.
