The Golden State Warriors announced Monday that forward Jimmy Butler underwent a successful surgical procedure on his right knee in Los Angeles, per a team press release (Twitter link).
The 36-year-old sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a January 19 matchup against Miami, and the operation was an ACL reconstruction.
According to the Warriors, Butler is expected to make a full recovery, though he will miss the rest of the 2025/26 season. The team said the next update on his condition will come “early next season.”
The injury occurred when Butler came down awkwardly on his right knee after being bumped midair while receiving a pass from Brandin Podziemski (Twitter video link via NBC Sports Bay Area).
The play resulted in a foul by Davion Mitchell, who was attempting to disrupt the pass.
A five-time All-NBA selection, Butler previously guided Miami to NBA Finals appearances in 2020 and 2023, along with an Eastern Conference finals run in 2022.
In 38 games with Golden State this season, he averaged 20.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.4 steals in 31.1 minutes per game, shooting .519 from the field, .376 from three, and .864 from the free-throw line.
