Anthony Edwards focused on Minnesota’s scoring problems rather than energy after the Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Timberwolves 115-96 on Sunday at Target Center. “I feel like we had good energy today… I think the offense just wasn’t going for it, especially myself,” Edwards said.
The All-Star guard finished with 23 points on 7-of-18 shooting as Minnesota dropped three of its last four games despite holding Los Angeles under 40 field goals. “I have nothing to say about our defense tonight. I think we did a pretty good job tonight. It just we couldn’t score the ball,” he said.
Kawhi Leonard led the visitors with 41 points and eight rebounds, including 24 in the first half during an 18-2 run that pushed the Clippers ahead 54-42. Minnesota shot 8-of-33 from three-point range and committed 20 turnovers, which Edwards described in simple terms: “Not having I mean the shots just didn’t go in.”
The Wolves’ leading scorer took responsibility for the offensive outcome after missing several key attempts. “I think I missed like 11 shots… we ain’t going to win by missing,” Edwards said. “As simple as if I just make a couple of my shots, man, the game go totally different.”
Minnesota also struggled to create flow against a defense that crowded driving lanes and forced difficult reads. “I felt like there was a lot of crowd around us… just got to make the right play,” Edwards said. “Whether if it’s if that’s shooting or passing the ball.”
Despite the result, Edwards pushed back on the idea that the team’s recent slump is tied to effort or morale. “Everybody overthinking it. Yeah, we good,” he said. “I’ll make do 11 of those shots tomorrow. We’ll be okay.”
The sixth-place team in the Western Conference entered the game coming off a blown 18-point lead against New Orleans, but Edwards emphasized staying focused on the next matchup. “Watch the film, see what I did bad, what I could do better, and then just be ready for the next one,” he said.
Energy plays remain part of his leadership approach, though he downplayed their impact in this loss. “Yeah, I try, but you know, sometimes it works, sometimes it don’t work,” Edwards said. “Like I said, tonight I don’t think it was a lack of energy thing.”
The 24-year-old also praised newly acquired guard Ayo Dosunmu, who finished with 11 points and two steals in his Timberwolves debut. “His communication is top tier… so yeah, we need him,” Edwards said.
Minnesota will try to reset quickly when it hosts the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, while the Clippers continue a road stretch Tuesday in Houston. “We got a game tomorrow, so you know, try to bring the energy tomorrow,” Edwards said.
