Pacers wing Johnny Furphy appears to have sustained a potentially serious injury to his right leg during Sunday’s loss in Toronto, according to Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files.
The injury occurred when Furphy came down awkwardly after finishing a dunk, immediately collapsing to the floor in visible pain while clutching his leg ((YouTube link).
The 21-year-old initially needed help to leave the court and was later transported to the locker room area in a wheelchair. Indiana officially ruled him out for the rest of the game, listing the injury as right leg soreness (Twitter link).
“We’re not sure on Furphy’s situation. He’ll get testing tomorrow in New York and we’ll see where things are,” head coach Rick Carlisle said following the game, via Tony East of Circle City Spin.
Selected 35th overall in the 2024 draft, Furphy has carved out a steady role in the Pacers’ rotation in his second NBA season.
He is averaging 5.2 points and 4.4 rebounds while shooting .466/.324/.486 across 34 games, including 20 starts, in 18.5 minutes per night.
