In a trade deadline primer focused on the New York Knicks, James L. Edwards III of The Athletic identifies Chicago Bulls guard Ayo Dosunmu as a potential target to monitor.
While the Knicks reportedly admire Dosunmu’s skill set, Stefan Bondy of The New York Post notes that prying him away from Chicago would “cost a lot.”
Edwards suggests that Miles McBride could be one of the pieces New York would need to include in any deal for Dosunmu, who is making $7.5 million this season and is set to become a free agent this summer if he does not agree to an extension beforehand.
Even so, Edwards views that possibility as unlikely, pointing out that McBride has played an important role for the Knicks and is signed to a team-friendly contract.
The analyst also reports that a “few” rival executives he spoke with do not believe Karl-Anthony Towns is completely untouchable in trade discussions.
However, Towns’ trade value is thought to have dropped since New York acquired him.
According to multiple league sources, the same perception applies to Mikal Bridges.
Those realities make it difficult for the Knicks to realistically pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo, despite their continued interest in the Bucks superstar.
If Towns were to be dealt before the February 5 deadline in a move that does not include Antetokounmpo, Edwards believes New York would most likely bring back contracts used primarily for salary matching, with the possibility of minor draft assets attached.
While a non-Antetokounmpo trade involving the six-time All-Star wouldn’t be shocking, Edwards ultimately considers that outcome improbable.
Ayo Dosunmu could be a trade target for the Knicks, plus more from New York. https://t.co/D4NrIHuF8i
