The NBA has issued a $50,000 fine to Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson following an on-court incident involving a game official.
According to the league, Atkinson aggressively confronted, verbally criticized, and made unintended physical contact with the referee during the fourth quarter of Cleveland’s loss to the Phoenix Suns on Friday, January 30.
The confrontation occurred with 10:59 remaining in the game and resulted in Atkinson being assessed his second technical foul.
That penalty led to his immediate ejection from the contest, bringing an abrupt end to his night on the Cavaliers’ bench.
