FORMER Manchester United coach Adam Lawrence has returned to the club just months after departing.
Lawrence spent four years at the North-West club, originally as a youth coach before being promoted to U18s manager in 2023.
He departed the club in June to pursue an opportunity as Newcastle‘s U21s manager, with his role being taken up by former United hero Darren Fletcher.
But now he has been coaxed back to Old Trafford to take up the role of U21 coach with the Red Devils, the club have announced.
A statement read: “Manchester United have appointed Adam Lawrence as Under-21s lead coach, until the end of the season.
“Lawrence was previously in charge of our Under-18s side, leading the youngsters to the national title in 2023/24, in addition to the Premier League Cup, before taking up a role at Newcastle United.”

Lawrence was drawn back to his old club after the prestigious U21 role opened up.
Incumbent boss Travis Binnion was poached for the first-team coaching set-up earlier this month, leaving the club in need of a replacement.
Lawrence, 40, inherits a squad including Fletcher’s twin sons Jack and Tyler, as well as first-team fringe star Shea Lacey.
The hiring has implications for Fletcher, who retains his role as U18s boss, as well as receiving some new responsibilities.

The statement continued: “Darren Fletcher continues as Under-18s lead coach and will now also take on additional responsibilities by leading the Professional Development Phase (Under-17s-Under-21s) for the remainder of 2025/26.”
Fletcher has led the U18s to the second spot in the U18 Premier League North standings.
The side also secured a 2-1 extra-time win over Burnley at Old Trafford last week to book their place in the fifth round of the FA Youth cup.
Wayne Rooney‘s son Kai featured in the match, earning himself an assist in front of his father and senior club manager Michael Carrick.
