Kings seek first-round pick for Keon Ellis

Sacramento Kings guard Keon Ellis is widely viewed as the most likely Kings player to be moved ahead of the trade deadline.

Ellis is on an easily movable $2.3 million contract for this season, though Sacramento has reportedly placed a steep price tag on the fourth-year guard.

The Kings are said to be seeking a first-round pick in any deal involving Ellis, even though he has slipped out of Doug Christie’s rotation.

The player is averaging 5.3 points this season while seeing his playing time drop to 17.3 minutes per game.

His shooting numbers have declined as well, which may be tied to the lack of consistency in his role under Christie.

Ellis, a 6-foot-4 guard, is on track to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and will be eligible for an extension shortly after the trade deadline.

Any team that trades for him would be limited by extend-and-trade restrictions, making it more likely that Ellis ultimately reaches free agency in July.
