Anthony Davis is scheduled to practice on Wednesday as he works toward his first game action since October 29, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
The Mavericks are hoping to have Davis available for Friday night’s matchup against the Lakers in Los Angeles, followed by a Saturday contest versus the Clippers.
“He’s working to get back,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said, signaling the team’s intent to integrate Davis into their rotation as soon as possible.
Davis has appeared in only five games this season, averaging 20.8 points, 10.2 assists, 6.8 rebounds, 2.2 steals, and 1.6 blocks in 29.8 minutes per game. His presence on both ends of the floor could provide a much-needed lift for Dallas, which currently holds a 5-14 record.
The Mavericks have struggled offensively without Davis, with Cooper Flagg leading the team at 15.9 points per game, and P.J. Washington adding 15.7 points and 7.8 rebounds over 18 games. D’Angelo Russell has averaged 12.8 points and 3.6 assists, but Dallas’ scoring balance has been inconsistent.
Dallas’ recent schedule has been challenging, with losses to Minnesota and Miami in their last two games.
The Mavericks will need Davis’ scoring, playmaking, and rim protection to improve their competitive edge in back-to-back games against Los Angeles teams, both of which are in the playoff hunt this season.
