Washington Wizards rookie guard Tre Johnson is expected to miss a handful of weeks due to a strained left hip flexor, league sources told Michael Scotto on Monday.

The 19-year-old guard has been one of the top shooters from this year’s draft class, connecting on 40% of his three-point attempts.

Johnson has been a bright spot for the Wizards in a challenging start to the season, averaging 11.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 24.3 minutes per game over 15 contests. His ability to stretch the floor and create scoring opportunities has made him a key component of Washington’s rotation.

The injury comes as the Wizards are struggling to find consistency, holding a 1-15 record through their first 16 games. Johnson’s absence removes one of their most efficient scoring threats and could force adjustments to the backcourt rotation.

Despite the setback, Johnson has shown promise as a versatile guard, capable of scoring off the catch, in pick-and-roll situations, and creating his own shot. His development has been a focal point for Washington as they look to build around young talent including Cam Whitmore and Bilal Coulibaly.

In his rookie campaign, Johnson has averaged 40% shooting from three-point range and contributed across multiple facets, including 1.6 steals per game.
