With Paul George and Joel Embiid not yet fully available at the start of the season, the Philadelphia 76ers have had to rely extensively on Tyrese Maxey and rookie VJ Edgecombe to carry the offense.
As Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer details, that dependence has pushed both guards into extremely heavy minutes early on – Maxey is leading the entire league at 40.4 minutes per game, while Edgecombe is logging 37.3 per night.
Head coach Nick Nurse said on Monday that he has addressed the demanding workload with both players, and each assured him that they’re fine with the responsibility.
“They’re both on board,” the Sixers’ head coach said. “I said, ‘Whenever these (injured players) come back to help, we’re going to welcome them with open arms. But until that point, let’s stay focused on doing what needs to be done.”
