Collin Sexton is adjusting to a new role in Charlotte, describing his transition as a learning curve with the Hornets welcoming him “with open arms.” The guard emphasized the importance of adapting to his responsibilities while integrating with the team’s style.

In an exclusive interview with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, Sexton discussed his point of entry into Charlotte, recalling how meeting Mugsy Bogues and Dell Curry left a lasting impression and reinforced his excitement to join the franchise. Those early experiences shaped his connection with the Hornets and the city’s basketball culture.

When asked about co-existing with LaMelo Ball, Sexton highlighted trust as the foundation of their on-court chemistry. “Give or take; he’ll bring it up, let him bring it up. If I get it, I’ll bring it up,” Sexton said, noting the need to trust each other regardless of who initiates the offense.

The veteran guard also reflected on lessons from his time in Utah, where leadership became a key focus. Sexton emphasized controlling what he can and mentoring younger teammates while maintaining professional standards he’s upheld throughout his career.

Sexton credited Kevin Love, George Hill, and Tristan Thompson as mentors during his early years in the league, helping him develop decision-making and the ability to read the game. He pointed to Love’s humor and social media presence as an ongoing source of entertainment and insight.

On identifying younger players who might consider him a mentor, Sexton said he has impacted several teammates across different teams, particularly younger Hornets and former Utah players.

For the 2025-26 season, Sexton has averaged 15.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.8 assists over 13 games with Charlotte, complementing LaMelo Ball, who is producing 22.0 points, 6.9 assists, and 9.6 rebounds per game. The duo’s growing chemistry is expected to be a key factor as the Hornets look to improve from their current 4-10 start.
