James Borrego will have the rest of the current season to make his case to New Orleans management and potentially earn the position on a permanent basis as the Pelicans’ full-time head coach.
Borrego was elevated to the interim role after the organization dismissed Willie Green on Saturday morning, signaling a midseason reset for the franchise.
Alongside Borrego, former NBA and college head coach Kevin Ollie is also expected to draw consideration from New Orleans as a candidate for the job once the season ends.
According to the report, Ollie will “receive interest” from the Pelicans as they evaluate long-term options.
Ollie previously served as the Brooklyn Nets’ interim head coach for 28 games during the 2024 season.
Before that, he held the head coaching role at UConn for six years, a tenure that included guiding the Huskies to significant postseason success.
