New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby exited Friday’s game against the Heat with a left hamstring strain suffered in the first quarter.
The team announced he wouldn’t return, and Stefan Bondy of The New York Post reported that the injury appeared to happen on a fast break, when Anunoby grabbed at his hamstring after missing a layup.
Jordan Clarkson opened the second half in Anunoby’s place, according to Ian Begley of SNY.tv. While it’s not yet clear how long Anunoby will be out, the quick diagnosis of a “strain” is notable, as teams often initially describe soft-tissue issues as tightness or soreness.
Before the injury, Anunoby – an All-Defensive honoree – was off to a strong 2025/26 campaign, averaging 17.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.1 steals on .483/.397/.760 shooting across 11 games.
Josh Hart, Landry Shamet, and Clarkson are candidates to see more minutes in his absence.
The Knicks were already missing Jalen Brunson, who sat out with a Grade 1 right ankle sprain suffered late in Wednesday’s loss to Orlando.
Asked why Brunson was still on the floor with New York down 16 in the final minutes, head coach Mike Brown explained his reasoning, as relayed by The New York Daily News.
“I’ve been a part of some crazy, crazy comebacks,” Brown said. “I’m trying to win the game … A stop and two threes, and it’s a two-possession game.”
