Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs continues to work his way back from the knee surgery that ended his previous season. The 24-year-old underwent a procedure in March to remove a cartilage fragment from his left knee and spent the offseason focused on rehabilitation.
He didn’t play in any preseason games and has been eased back into action with a minutes restriction to begin the 2025–26 campaign, averaging just under 20 minutes per game through seven appearances.
When asked on Friday about when Suggs might see his playing time increase, head coach Jamahl Mosley opted for caution, offering a measured response.
“You’d like to try and ramp him up a little bit more but you want to be careful for the long haul of the season, being smart with it,” Mosley said, according to The Orlando Sentinel’s Jason Beede.
“The more we can get his minutes up, the better it’ll be because then there’s a routine and a continuity that can happen when you’d have similar lineups on the floor.”
Despite his limited minutes, Suggs has been highly efficient and productive. Through seven games, he’s averaging 11.0 points, 4.4 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game while shooting .551 from the field, .448 from three-point range, and .909 from the free-throw line.
The former No. 5 overall pick has also posted the team’s best net rating differential – +14.5 when he’s on the floor compared to -5.9 when he sits – underscoring his impact even in restricted playing time.
