Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of support he and his family have received after their home was destroyed in a fire early Thursday morning.
Speaking publicly for the first time since the incident, Spoelstra addressed reporters on Friday.
He said he was thankful that no one was injured – including the family’s dog – and that the South Florida community had rallied around them during a difficult time, according to The Associated Press’s Tim Reynolds.
“I just want to thank everybody for this overwhelming support,” Spoelstra said, as his sons stood beside him and his daughter sat in his lap.
“The South Florida community has just been absolutely remarkable. People reaching out, wanting to help. It’s obviously been something that’s uniquely challenging for our family, but Spoelstras are resilient.”
