FC Barcelona announced on Sunday, November 9, that head coach Joan Penarroya will no longer lead the basketball team. The club thanked Penarroya for his professionalism and wished him success in future endeavors.

Penarroya, who joined Barcelona ahead of the 2024-25 season, is replaced on an interim basis by assistant coach Oscar Orellana. The move comes as the team seeks to improve its performance in both the EuroLeague and ACB standings.

Barcelona currently sits ninth in the EuroLeague with a 5-4 record and a negative point differential of -7. The team has struggled to maintain consistency, winning only two of its four home games while holding a 3-2 record on the road.

In the domestic ACB league, Barcelona is 12th with a 2-4 record, scoring 506 points while allowing 523. The club trails teams like Valencia Basket and Real Madrid, who have started the season strongly with winning records.

Orellana, a longtime assistant with the team, will lead preparations for upcoming EuroLeague and ACB matchups.
