Fox’s return makes San Antonio Spurs even more dangerous

The San Antonio Spurs are actually scary with Victor Wembayama’s improvement and now even better with the return of an elite guard, De’Aaron Fox.

After dethroning the New Orleans Pelicans with a 126-119 victory, the presence of their floor general was immediately felt, leading them with 24 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

With a skilled head tactician, Mitch Johnson, it was no surprise that they were currently in second seed position early this season.

Johnson lauded Fox for his impact in his debut, where they are starting to build a winning culture after being in a slump in the previous seasons.

“He’s dynamic. “He’s done it plenty of times. It’s good to have him back on the court. Hopefully, we can just continue to build,” Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said of Fox.

Fox felt differently after not playing for around eight months, especially in a full-court setting that might require some adjustments.

“Obviously, there was rust. I played five on five before I got out here, but there’s definitely rust. I haven’t played a game since March and then I actually didn’t play full court all summer. So, my first time really playing full court was two weeks ago,” Fox said.

The 6-foot-3 guard also discussed his rehabilitation journey, and he couldn’t believe he was back on the hard court to compete again.

“I didn’t cry, but I definitely broke down like, ‘Wow, I just got here. Obviously, I just had surgery on my hand, and then this happens, and for me it was like, ‘All right, you can sit here and pout and not go to work, or you can obviously sulk for a little bit.’ But after that I didn’t miss a day (of rehab),” he added.

Spurs are the biggest threat in the West this season

The Spurs’ rebuilding tenure is about to come to an end as they have already acquired the needed players to compete in the postseason.

With Wemby in his third year, he has gained significant experience alongside rising stars and key players such as Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, Dylan Harper, and many more, who can help bring the Spurs’ era back on its winning track.

If they become consistently healthy throughout the season, they might be projected as the number one seed with the assets they currently have.
