Nikola Jokic recorded his sixth triple-double in nine games, posting 32 points, 14 rebounds, and 14 assists as the Denver Nuggets defeated the Indiana Pacers 117-100 at Ball Arena on Saturday. The win completed a four-game homestand sweep for Denver, improving their record to 7-2.
Playing without Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon due to injuries, the Nuggets relied on Jalen Pickett and Peyton Watson, with Watson scoring a season-high 16 points. Jokic’s leadership helped Denver withstand a brief Pacers rally, including a technical foul on Gordon that allowed Indiana to cut the lead to 64-61 early in the third quarter.
“I’m not going to get as stressed…I’m not going to yell at the refs,” Jokic said after the game, per Ryan Blackburn. “I’m just going to try to comport my energy to basketball plays.” The center’s focus on controlled energy reflects a shift in approach this season, aiming to maximize performance rather than react to officiating.
Jokic’s deep three-pointer midway through the fourth quarter extended Denver’s lead to 109-88, putting the game out of reach. The Pacers struggled to find offensive rhythm, scoring just 22 points in the opening quarter, with Aaron Nesmith adding 25 and Andrew Nembhard 22.
Bench contributions were critical for Denver, with Jonas Valanciunas, Tim Hardaway Jr., Hunter Tyson, and Christian Braun providing scoring support. Jokic emphasized the importance of energy management and consistent effort from every player, particularly in games where key starters are unavailable.
The Nuggets’ strategy to maintain possession and defensive intensity proved effective, limiting Indiana’s scoring opportunities and controlling the pace of the game. Jokic’s decision to stay composed on foul calls appears to have helped the team avoid momentum swings.
Denver now heads to Sacramento on Tuesday, while the Pacers visit Golden State on Sunday. Jokic’s approach to managing emotions and maintaining focus will likely remain a key factor for the Nuggets as they navigate a challenging stretch of the schedule.
