It has been a rollercoaster ride for Cade Cunningham’s stint with the Detroit Pistons, but he continues to prove his worth as the team’s leader.

The Pistons just had their worst record in franchise history, ending the season with a 14-68 win-loss record in 2023-24.

While the former first overall pick is taking charge, Detroit is currently the first seed in the early season, striving to maintain consistency for the entire remaining matchups.

Cunningham went off in his last five games as he kept contributing with double-double figures to lead the Pistons.

NBA legend Steve Nash commends the elite guard for his playmaking skills, which have put the team in the winning column this early in the season.

“I actually want to give a nod to Cade’s passing. You know, we always knew he’s a playmaker, he can make plays for others, of course makes his teammates better, but I feel like he’s even taken another step. Just in general, he’s making early passes, late passes, short passes, the long pass ahead. He’s making the corner pass over the top. He’s kind of gotten every pass in his bag now, and it’s really impressive to watch him have command, and you can’t speed him up with his size.”

Although there were not many expectations for the Pistons, considering it was very early in the campaign to make predictions, they deserve at least recognition after having the worst record two years ago.

Being in a rebuilding team also takes a lot of patience, especially when you are the leader of the team, and Cunningham has not complained about anything over the seasons.

The 6-foot-6 point guard is a leader and a future asset who can help Detroit reach the playoffs or embark on a championship run, as long as his teammates step up in crucial moments.

Cunningham almost averaged a double-double in nine games this early season with 25.6 points, 9.7 assists, and 4.8 rebounds, while shooting 46.6% from the field.
