Mark Cuban, minority owner of the Dallas Mavericks, opened up about Luka Doncic’s early-season form with the Lakers, calling it “painful” during an appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show. Cuban acknowledged that while it stings for Mavericks supporters, he is happy for the former star.

Doncic was traded to Los Angeles in February 2025 in a blockbuster deal that sent Anthony Davis and other assets to Dallas. The move shocked many, including Cuban, who has described the trade as a tough moment for the franchise.

The 26-year-old guard has made an immediate impact with the Lakers, averaging 40.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 9.2 assists over five games this season. His performance includes shooting 50% from the field and 30.5% from three-point range, underscoring his role as the centerpiece of Los Angeles’ offense.

Cuban’s comments come as the Lakers sit 7-2 and second in the Western Conference, trailing only the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Mavericks, meanwhile, are struggling at 2-7, ranked last in the West, highlighting the contrast in fortunes since the trade.

The Lakers’ success is also fueled by strong contributions from teammates like Deandre Ayton and Austin Reaves, who provide scoring depth and playmaking around Doncic. Los Angeles next faces Atlanta on Saturday night at State Farm Arena.
