Russell Westbrook delivered a vintage performance on Wednesday night, leading the short-handed Sacramento Kings to a win over the equally depleted Golden State Warriors.
The veteran guard notched an impressive triple-double – 23 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists – showcasing the relentless energy that has defined his career, according to Anthony Slater of ESPN.com.
After the game, Westbrook reflected on his dominance on the glass, offering a confident assessment of his rebounding ability.
“Humbly speaking, I’m the best rebounding guard ever,” he said. “So if the ball come across the rim, I’m going to get it.”
What Westbrook didn’t realize at the time was that he had just made NBA history.
His 16 rebounds in the victory pushed him past Hall of Famer Jason Kidd for the most career rebounds ever recorded by a guard. When informed of the milestone, Westbrook reacted with surprise and a grin.
“Oh,” he said. “Honestly, I didn’t even know that. I’m going to need the game ball.”
